There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that contains many amenities in addition to the casino, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
