There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall betting is not allowed. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that highlights many luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
