There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that features many comforts on top of the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
