There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den betting is banned. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel complex that contains a number of amenities in addition to the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
