There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gambling is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that features many luxuries aside from the gambling den, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
